International Rose Test Garden, Portland OR. © 2012 Nick Drew. Thanks to Paul and Debbie for inviting us to attend the annual Angel of Hope event at Riverview Cemetery. It was very helpful for me to hear what other parents have gone through after losing a child and validated many of the feelings I have had in the during 3 & 1/2 years. The Angel of Hope is based on Richard Paul Evans' national bestseller, "The Christmas Box." Annually, on the second Sunday in December, a candle lighting vigil is held at the Angel of Hope sites around the world at 7:00 p.m. local time. This commemorates and honors the memory of all children who have died.
Ashley's Uncle Dave Ashley's Uncle Dave is a local firefighter who participated in a stair climb on March 8th to raise funds for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). He did this at the Columbia Center in downtown Seattle alongside several thousand other firefighters who climbed more than 1300 steps wearing full fire gear and SCBA. Dave is passionate about this event, training relentlessly on his days off. In this picture he partnered with his co-workers to raise money by working at a local restaurant. He's been clear with me this is not about him but about his love for his niece. Thanks to all who helped him him raise more than $1400 toward a cure. He climbed more than 69 flights of stairs. A loud shout out to to Dave and so many others who made this event a success. Read more about it at his website. |
